Hits shots like Kallis, Amla highly impressed with Pakistan batsman

Legendary South Africa batsman Hashim Amla has lavished praise on Pakistan opener Saim Ayub, saying he “hits shots like Jacques Kallis”.

Ayub has been in incredible form over the past couple of months, which is refreshing to see after he had a slow start to his international career.

During Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia, the 22-year-old amassed 125 runs in three ODIs, which included a top score of 82, at an average of 41.66.

He was then part of Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe and began with 155 runs in three ODIs, which included a career-best 113 not out, at an average of 77.50.

After this, he scored 60 runs in two T20Is at an average of 60.

In the ongoing tour of South Africa, the Karachi native has continued to shine as he struck 129 runs in two T20Is, which included a career-best knock of 98 not out, at an average of 129.

He followed it up with 235 runs in three ODIs, which included two centuries, at an average of 78.33.

Amla has been very impressed with Ayub’s performance and reiterated that when the talented youngster bats, it reminds him of Kallis.

“Saim Ayub hits shots like Jacques Kallis used to hit,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan and South Africa are now involved in a two-Test series, which the Proteas lead 1-0 after claiming a two-wicket win in the 1st Test in Centurion.

In the 1st Test, Ayub made scores of 14 and 27.

The 2nd Test will get underway on January 3 in Cape Town.
