The teenager carrying England's hopes

Michelle Agyemang may have had less than 10 minutes on the pitch in England's opening Group D encounter at the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 football tournament on Saturday (5 July), but she certainly made her mark.

With England trailing 2-0 to the French, manager Sarina Wiegman threw in the 19-year old Arsenal forward in the 86th minute, and she impressed, most notably contributing more touches in the French box (five) than any other England player.

Her arrival coincided with the English fightback, and although the defending champions fell to a 2-1 defeat, the final four minutes of regulation time and additional injury time pressure showed why Agyemang was in the squad.

It was the kind of performance that makes a case for being given more minutes in subsequent matches, and there are certainly many who believe she could be the key when the holders take on the Netherlands on Wednesday in their second group game.
