Man Utd ready to rival Arsenal for blockbuster Sandro Tonali transfer this summer

Arsenal and Manchester City have already been linked with a summer swoop for Sandro Tonali but the Newcastle midfielder is now also of interest to Manchester United

Sandro Tonali is on Manchester United's summer wishlist as speculation over the Newcastle midfielder's future continues to grow following talk of a surprise move to Arsenal in the winter transfer window.

The Italy star, 25, was linked with the Gunners on deadline day last week with reports claiming he had been 'offered' to Mikel Arteta's side. Tonali's agent subsequently shot down those rumours but has since opened the door to a summer move, and it is understood the playmaker is keen to play Champions League football again next season.

Arsenal and Manchester City are among the teams expected to be at the table if Tonali does choose to pursue a move at the end of the campaign.

And The Telegraph report that Tonali is on a Manchester United shortlist alongside Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton as the Red Devils plan a revamp of their midfield.

United already know that Casemiro will be leaving them this summer and the Brazilian's impending departure means there is a gap to be filled. Like Anderson and Wharton, Tonali, who boasts plenty of Premier League experience, would require no bedding-in period.

Newcastle would stand to make a significant profit on the £55million sum they paid to bring Tonali to St James Park from AC Milan in the summer of 2023.

Tonali's agent, Giuseppe Riso, fuelled talk that his client is leaning towards a transfe rwith comments me hade to Tuttosport last week.

“Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League,” he said. “We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer. These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.”

He added: “There’s no preference at the moment. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point in moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club.”
