Drama ensued at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow as Lucknow Super Giants’ Digvesh Rathi had mankaded Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Jitesh Sharma in the IPL 2025 match on Tuesday. When RCB looked to take the game away from the hosts, Jitesh, alongside Mayank Agarwal, put up a stellar partnership.

The decision had gone to the third umpire, who had deemed that the bowler had completed his action when he went for the attempt at the non-striker’s end. However, the rules dictate that the bowler can only go for the mankad midway into his action.

Seeing the drama on the field, Virat Kohli was also visibly frustrated at the momentum being taken away from the visitors and was seen gesturing to the RCB players in the middle.

The mankad has stirred up a conversation every time it has occurred. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin in his previous years in the IPL with the Punjab Kings had mankaded the Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler as well.

According to the Playing conditions of the IPL, “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out by the bowler attempting to run him/her out. In these circumstances, the non-striker will be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the wicket or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered".

With the right call being taken by the umpire, RCB went on to cruise their way to victory as Jitesh Sharma played a heroic knock for the ages to secure the win by six wickets and also ensure a spot in Qualifier 1. The win puts them in the second position behind Punjab Kings.

Jitesh scored an unbeaten 85 off 33 balls alongside supporting roles from Virat Kohli with 54 and Mayank Agarwal who scored 41 runs to help RCB chase down 228 with eight balls to spare. This also becomes RCB’s highest run-chase as well and what a time for it to come.
