‘I hear Chelsea wants him’: Leboeuf says it’s ‘wrong’ £25m Newcastle target is benched at WC

Frank Leboeuf is shocked that Newcastle United transfer target Leandro Trossard is on the bench for Belgium at the Qatar World Cup, as he told ESPN.

The former World Cup winner added that ‘I hear Chelsea wants Trossard’ and appeared to question why Roberto Martinez isn’t starting the Belgium forward.

On the Premier League scene, the 27-year-old headed to the Middle East in serious form and with seven goals to his name – that’s why the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea are eager to sign the £25 million man.

But Martinez feels the need to start players like Eden Hazard instead, who is half-cooked, injury-prone and playing nowhere near his level, as Leboeuf shared his thoughts on Trossard’s situation.

“Trossard, I hear that Chelsea wants Trossard,” said Leboeuf.

“And Trossard is on the bench? In that Belgium team? That’s impossible. There is something wrong.

“Maybe Martinez is the only one who can tell us why he doesn’t have the guts to change. Maybe he has pressure from somebody else.”

TROSSARD TO START AGAINST CROATIA?

Even during Belgium’s win over Canada for their opening group game, they looked unconvincing and they should have lost that game.

They put in the same performance against Morocco and ended up getting punished 2-0 – Trossard has played only 44 minutes during that time.

It’s baffling given that, in La Liga alone this season, Hazard has only played 98 minutes, yet he is playing in front of in-form players on football’s biggest stage and the Belgians are getting punished for it.

That has to change against Croatia and Trossard needs to start, or else Belgium will be on an early flight back home.
