Alex Eala joins top players in Macau team event

MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala may have already concluded her campaign on the WTA Tour, but her historic year is far from done.

Eala is set to see action alongside other top-ranked players in the Macau Tennis Masters to be held at the Macao Forum from December 27 to 28.

“The holidays are for sharing so please come share them with us on court,” said Eala.

Retired Grand Slam champions Li Na of China and Conchita Martinez of Spain banner the team tournament as captains and they will lead their respective squads of three players: two males and one female.

Eala will get a chance to test her mettle against world No. 9 Mirra Andreeva, who won a pair of WTA 1000 tournaments this year as the Russian ruled the Dubai Championships and Indian Wells Open.

The rest of the field includes ATP No. 10 Jack Draper of Great Britain, No. 19 Jakub Mensik of the Czech Republic, and No. 255 Shang Juncheng of China, with another male player yet to be announced.

According to tournament organizer MGM Go, the team composition will be determined by Li, an Australian Open and French Open champion, and Martinez, a Wimbledon titlist.

Eala enjoyed a stellar 2025 season that saw her crack the top 50 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career — a rise fueled by her magical semifinal run in the Miami Open, a runner-up finish in the Eastbourne Open, and a breakthrough WTA Challenger title in the Guadalajara Open.

Before the Macau tiff, the 20-year-old might see action in the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December, saying the biennial showpiece is “in my plans.”
