Novak Djokovic is due to take on a collosal path in this year's Australian Open with Spanish wiz Carlos Alcaraz set to be waiting for him in the quarter-finals, but with new coach and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray now in his corner, we can expect a sizzling few weeks ahead.Djokovic is going into the New Year with his sights set on a win, especially after an unusual 2024 where he failed to take home a Grand Slam. Not all was lost, though, as he did nab an Olympic gold, meaning he has now won every title in singles tennis.Going into the Australian Open, Djokovic was no stranger to a bit of controversy. Back in 2022, he was denied entry into the country after failing COVID vaccine requirements, meaning he didn't take part. Making the journey back in 2023, however, paid off as he once again smashed through the rounds, taking the crown home. Although 2022 is a distant memory, Djokovic has mentioned the impact it had and how the trauma is still there from the ordeal.CloseNovak Djokovic's Potential Route to Australian Open FinalHe could have to face Carlos Alcarez, Alexander Zverev, and Jannik SinnerLet's take a look at the potential route for the seventh seed...First to face him on court is 19-year-old US wildcard Ninesh Basavareddy. The young rising star will have his work cut out to take on the Serbian monster. Next up, we could see him facing an opponent yet to qualify, or Paval Kotov. Kotoz hasn't made it past the second round at the Open, so again, this looks like an easy-breezy win for Djokovic.Going into the third round, and this is where things could get a bit hairy, as we could see a match-up against Reilly Opelka, who only just last week beat Djokovic in straight sets in Brisbane on the clay.Round four is likely to be either Grigor Dimitrov or Jiri Lehacka, both having lost to him in the past, so they would be looking to change that if they came head-to-head. The quarter-final could see the match-up of the tournament with Alcaraz set to be in the running. Djokovic currently leads 4-3 on his rival and has previously won both matches taking place on the hard courts, but the Spanish young gun is out for a Grand Slam win, so these two will be out to set fire to the court and come out on top.Into the semis, if Djokovic can get that far, we have a toss-up between Alexander Zverev and Casper Rudd, although Zverev is currently battling an injury to his bicep. Other names that could pop up could be Tommy Paul, a former Australian Open semi-finalist, as well as homegrown legend Nick Kyrgios or Ugo Humbert.Novak Djokovic's possible route to Australian Open final Round Possible opponent Round 1 Ninesh Basavareddy Round 2 Paval Kotov Round 3 Reilly Opelka Round 4 Grigor Dimitrov Quarter-final Carlos Alcaraz Semi-final Alexander Zverev Final Jannik SinnerGoing into the final, we have none other than current champion Jannik Sinner. The Italian beat the Serbian in the semis last year as well as taking home the US Open too. This match-up for the final will be a big one and, with Sinner winning four of their last five matches, it will only leave Djokovic with even more fire in his belly to get back on top.
