Alex Eala drops to No. 69 in latest WTA rankings

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala slid to Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world ranking No. 69, as she is set to return to competition in Canada.

Eala dropped from a career-high of World No. 56 as she takes a well-deserved three-week break that included a homecoming in Manila.

The 20-year-old tennis player recently made her debut in the Wimbledon singles main draw, where she fell short to 2024 champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round.

Eala also reached the final of Eastbourne Open but yielded to Maya Joint in a neck-and-neck three-setter.

The Filipino tennis sensation posted photos of her homecoming, enjoying her time with her family and interactions with her fans.

Eala then flew to Canada for the National Bank Open set from July 26 to August 7.

The Rafa Nadal Academy graduate, who will also compete in Cincinnati and Monterrey, eyes her first Grand Slam main draw win in the US Open starting on August 24 in New York.

Eala became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam singles title when she ruled the 2022 US Open Girls.
