Friday was a very blaugrana day for Joan Garcia. After his signing for FC Barcelona was announced on 18 June, the new goalkeeper has now officially put pen to paper. The signature was made at the main offices of the Spotify Camp Nou.

Garcia has signed a six-season deal with Barça, and did so in the presence of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, Football Director Anderson Luis de Souza 'Deco', Football Area Coordinator Bojan Krkić, and board member Joan Soler. The new Barça player was also joined by his family and representatives.

“Very happy”

FC Barcelona triggered the goalkeeper’s release clause, and the man himself is delighted, saying “I’m very happy, culers. I’m really looking forward to sharing great moments with you.” Garcia was undoubtedly one of the standout goalkeepers in last season’s Liga. Statistics show he was a key man for Espanyol, recording the most saves in the league (146) and, according to advanced metrics, preventing more goals than any other keeper.

He now arrives at Barça eager to get to work with the first team. Hansi Flick’s squad will return to action on 13 July with the traditional medical tests, followed the next day by their first double training session. The horizon also includes the Asian tour, where Garcia could make his debut against Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul or Daegu FC.
