What a member of Leeds United staff said to a journalist immediately after they were promoted

Leeds United have been promoted back to the Premier League, and they did it in some style.

Indeed, Leeds beat Stoke 6-0 this week to secure their place back in the top flight, and, after that win, the party started in West Yorkshire.

Leeds fans serenaded Daniel Farke and his squad after the Stoke game, and according to Graham Smyth, speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, one member of Leeds staff found a real sense of irony among the celebrations.

According to Smyth, a staff member came and had a joke with him after the Stoke game, noting that while the fans were jubilant on Monday, it was only a fortnight prior that Leeds were being booed off the pitch after seemingly blowing their promotion chances.

What a Leeds staff member said after promotion

Smyth shared what a staff member said to him after Leeds were promoted this week.

While the fans were partying in the stands, a staff member was quick to note just how fickle football can be, noting that it wasn’t long ago that this same group of players were being booed off the pitch.

Leeds are now back in the Premier League, and Tomas Soucek has been linked to Leeds as their potential first signing.

“And yeah, it’s funny, isn’t it? You know, somebody in the backroom staff came over during the East Stand celebrations and he said ‘they were booed off two weeks ago’ and like kind of chuckled. Football is mad,” Smyth said.

Football is an absolutely mad sport. Leeds United is a mad club. And they got it over the line and they got it over the line in the most impressive way possible.”

Why did Leeds fans boo their own players?

Leeds have had a brilliant season, they’re back in the Premier League at the second time of asking, and they’ve played some incredible stuff this season.

Jayden Bogle recently earned praise from Micah Richards, and the Whites do deserve plenty of credit for this fantastic campaign.

However, in typical Leeds fashion, it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

As Smyth says, Leeds were booed off the pitch a few weeks ago, and that’s because they came close to throwing their promotion hopes away as they dropped down to third place.

Leeds had a tough run through March, as the stats show.

However, Daniel Farke managed to rally the troops and get Leeds over the line.

As always though, the hard work doesn’t stop here, and Leeds need to begin planning for life back in the top flight as soon as possible.
