New club join Marcus Rashford race and offer Man Utd transfer trump card

Monaco have entered the race to sign Marcus Rashford with the French side confident they can offer a package to land the Manchester United outcast.

Rashford is being tipped for a January exit after falling down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim. He's not featured in the first team for a month after previously being dropped and overlooked for several matchday squads.

The forward remains one of the club's top earners but has continued to underperformed and the player himself has spoken openly about seeking a "fresh challenge". Monaco are now ready to offer him a lifeline with the Ligue 1 outfit in the hunt for silverware and looking to bolster their frontline.

Manager Adi Hütter, who guided Monaco into the Champions League last season, is looking at wide forwards with Rashford on their shortlist, as first reported by the Telegraph. The principality has no income tax, which works in Monaco's favour in terms of covering Rashford’s wages, which are upwards of £300,000 a week.

Monaco are close to signing Mika Biereth, a central striker, from Sturm Graz but are also open to doing more business. The French side are third domestically but are also in the qualification positions to advance to the knockouts of the Champions League.

Former Liverpool man Takumi Minamino and ex-Arsenal star Folarin Balogun are both part of the Monaco attack, albeit neither man has been prolific this term, hence Monaco's desire to dip into the market for more firepower.

There is already heavy interest from Italy in Rashford as AC Milan and Juventus are both linked with loan moves. Borussia Dortmund have also entered the race but they would all need the Premier League giants to subsidise a huge chunk of the player's wages. That is no such problem for the Principality club and gives them a serious edge to land Rashford on a temporary deal.

Rashford is available to face Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday. Asked whether the player would still have a future in Manchester if he was to leave on loan this month, Amorim said: “We will see, guys. Let’s focus on the game. They are available, they are training, we will see for this game.”

United are welcoming offers for every player in their squad as part of their squad overhaul. No players is beyond selling and even the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, who is still in contract talks with the club, is being linked with a move to Cheslea.
