Dublin football manager Ger Brennan has had his 12-week suspension upheld by the GAA's Central Hearings Committee, RTÉ Sport understands.

The ban arose from a red card issued to Brennan for getting involved in a fracas with Galway strength and conditioning coach Cian Breathnach McGinn during Dublin's league defeat to Galway at Pearse Stadium, a result which saw the Dubs relegated from Division 1.

As things stand, the Dublin boss will not be on the sideline for his side's Leinster Championship campaign and for the first round of the All-Ireland series.

Breathnach McGinn was handed an eight-week suspension for his part in the incident.

"Look, myself and the Galway mentor, small coming together and silly stuff from us, and Fergal (Kelly) was correct to give us both a red card. We shouldn't be doing that," Brennan said in the aftermath of the game.

Dublin and Brennan have the option to appeal the decision to the Central Appeals Committee, and it is widely expected they'll go down that route.
