TO A HALT Aberdeen vs Celtic Scottish Cup final restart DELAYED after Kasper Schmeichel’s own goal as fans go wild in the stands

WILD celebrations caused a lengthy delay to the Scottish Cup final after Aberdeen scored a shock equaliser.

Kasper Schmeichel had a howler in the Celtic goal as he fumbled Shayden Morris' cross in the 83rd minute.

The goal was scored at the end of the stadium where the Aberdeen fans were sitting - but they didn't remain seated for long.

Morris sprinted over to the Dons fans and they charged down towards the bottom of the stand to celebrate levelling things up at 1-1 with the team.

After around a minute of celebrating, the players returned to their positions.

But many of the Dons fans in that section had to be pushed back to their seats by a cordon of security guards and police officers, with some having spilled over the advertising hoardings and onto the pitch.

Several supporters had crashed through the hoardings and some younger fans pulled their phones out to film the scenes.

An announcement then came over the Hampden tannoy calling for the fans to immediately return to their seats so the game could restart.

Morris, a second half substitute, put a dangerous ball into the box from the right wing area with Oday Dabbagh, Pape Habib Guèye and Nicky Devlin all waiting to pounce.

Schmeichel gambled by trying to parry the ball away before it could reach Devlin at the back post but he misjudged it badly.

He ended up deflecting the ball into his own net as it bounced under his body and as it rippled into the back of the net, it sent the Dons players and fans into raptures.

Some wondered if the consequent delay was caused by a VAR check.

But once the tannoy sounded it became apparent the confusion was due to the fan overspill.

The game eventually restarted two minutes later.
