Kai Rooney, son of England legend, Wayne Rooney has dismissed reports that he been offered a notable wage for his first professional contract at Manchester United. If reports are to be believed, he is set to earn far more than his father did when he first got paid as an Everton youngster.

The 16-year-old has been part of Man United’s academy for several years now, and looks set to follow in his dad's footsteps by one day playing for the Red Devils at senior level. He will have a lot to live up to if that is the case, with Rooney the club's record goalscorer with 253 goals, making him one of their best ever players.

Man Utd, however, seem to have plenty of faith in Kai, as evidenced by the reported contract offer to him.

Kai Rooney Warns 'Don't Listen' To Contract Rumours

As first reported by The Sun, the left-footed attacker now been offered a formal one-year scholarship by Old Trafford bosses. This will then switch to a three-year pro deal, which would see him on around £50,000 a year with an annual signing-on fee.

That said, the report notes that the Rooney family have not agreed to the deal as of yet. What's more, the player himself has refuted details of the offer, taking to his social media account to say (via the Express): "Don't listen to [Daily] Mail."

On the report offer, a source told the Sun:

“The group is very strong and the majority of the boys including Kai and Jacey have been offered deals.

“It means when they finish school they can go into full-time ‘football employment’ and then when they turn 17 are guaranteed a pro status.

“They still have a long way to go to make the grade, but they can be very proud that the club thinks they have a chance of making it.”

Wayne Rooney Was on Just £90 Per Week at Everton

While Wayne went on to earn millions across his career – earning £300,000 per week at one point during his time at Old Trafford – he certainly wasn't earning as much money when he first agreed a wage with Everton. Despite being one of the most talented teenagers on the planet, he was initially making just £90 a week at Goodison Park.

This equates to £4680 a year, which is considerably less than the £50,000 deal his eldest son, who finishes school this summer, has reportedly been offered. That said, Wayne did get a bonus of £1,500 per senior appearance for the Toffees. What's more, his next contract at Everton saw him jump up to a £13,000 weekly salary. That's certainly more befitting of his talent.

It remains to be seen if Man Utd have offered Kai professional terms, and what the actual figure of his salary is, with the youngster clearly taking issue with some of the details reported.
