A conclusive announcement regarding the much-awaited Pakistan versus India fixture in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is likely to come on February 12, according to informed sources.

Reports in Indian media suggest that the International Cricket Council had set February 9 as the deadline for Pakistan to formally convey its stance. However, insiders say no significant development is expected immediately, with the matter likely to be finalized later in the week.

In the meantime, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today to update him on the latest discussions and to seek direction on how to proceed. Sources have confirmed that the ultimate decision on Pakistan’s participation in the high-profile match will be made by the Prime Minister.

Late-night discussions involving the ICC, PCB, and Bangladesh Cricket Board recently concluded, focusing on Pakistan’s possible refusal to play the match against India and the broader regional cricket scenario. Extensive deliberations were held on the implications of the Pakistan–India contest and future cooperation.

It may be recalled that an ICC delegation visited Lahore a day earlier to formally request Pakistan to go ahead with the match against India. Previously, acting on government guidance, the PCB had agreed to take part in the T20 World Cup while maintaining its position of not playing against India.
