AI chooses next Man Utd manager with unlikely candidate named

The Manchester United managerial hot seat has proved a treacherous position since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure. The Red Devils have cycled through 11 bosses, encompassing caretaker and interim appointments, since 2013, yet a Premier League crown or Champions League triumph remains frustratingly distant from Old Trafford.

Following Ruben Amorim's dismissal, the English powerhouse finds itself hitting the reset button once more on their journey back to glory, but success hinges on securing the right permanent manager. Numerous candidates have been mooted for the vacancy, including Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel, yet according to artificial intelligence, one name stands head and shoulders above the rest.

When we consulted AI for its verdict on Amorim's ideal successor to rouse the slumbering giant, it identified Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann as the outstanding candidate.

Setting aside technology's judgment momentarily, the 38-year-old has already garnered glowing endorsements from fellow German Jurgen Klopp, who previously hailed him as a "big coaching talent".

This praise came ahead of their 2017 Champions League play-off clash, when Klopp's Liverpool faced Nagelsmann's Hoffenheim. At just 29 years old then, Nagelsmann was earmarked for greatness by Klopp, who said: "I'm really happy for my friend and agent because I'm the old horse in the stable and there's a young horse already.

"He's a big, big coaching talent. We don't know each other very well but I've followed his way because I like good football. He's not the only one but he's a good example of a lot of really good young managers in Germany."

AI's assessment of why Nagelsmann stands head and shoulders above other potential United managers highlights his tenure at football powerhouse Bayern Munich, where he proved adept at managing substantial egos and lofty expectations.

Nevertheless, his commitment to Germany, which extends until UEFA Euro 2028, may present complications. Nagelsmann's previous stints at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig showcased his team-building prowess, particularly during his spell with Hoffenheim.

When appointed in February 2016, Hoffenheim languished in 17th place in the Bundesliga, yet under the German tactician they escaped the drop and remarkably secured Champions League qualification just a year later—a maiden achievement for the club.

Considering United's present situation, they desperately require a manager who can, given adequate time, construct a side capable of qualifying for European competition and thriving within it, as demonstrated by his impressive Champions League semi-final run with Leipzig.

Whilst Amorim's rigid adherence to a three-at-the-back system proved problematic during his 14-month tenure at Old Trafford, Nagelsmann wouldn't face similar criticism due to his tactical versatility, according to AI analysis.

With the ability to organise teams that can operate with a back three or four, the German manager has the flexibility to adapt to his players' strengths, rather than forcing them into a system they're not prepared for.

It remains uncertain whether United's chiefs will pursue Nagelsmann, but the German appears to be an ideal candidate to breathe new life into the club following another managerial exit. This is, once again, according to AI.
