Kris Boyd noticed how Tony Bloom 'totally dismissed' Rangers with Celtic comments

Tony Bloom’s comments about Hearts challenging Celtic for the title have certainly grabbed the headlines today.

The Hearts investor believes the Tynecastle club can challenge Celtic for the title, maybe not this season, but within the next ten years.

The comments caused a heated debate on Sky Sports between Celtic hero Chris Sutton and James McFadden with Kris Boyd chipping in with nothing much to offer.

However, towards the end of the debate, Boyd did notice how Bloom ‘totally dismissed’ Rangers after what the Hearts investor didn’t say about the Ibrox club.

What Tony Bloom said about Celtic and Hearts

Bloom was talking about his investment in Hearts just before the fixture against Aberdeen at Tynecastle last night.

Speaking pre-match, Bloom told Sky Sports, “I’ve been thinking about investing in a Scottish club for a little while, and when I met Anne Budge, she sold it really well to me.

“I started doing a bit of homework on the history and the fan base and passion, and being in Edinburgh is also a big pull as well.

“And I really think that Hearts are going to start doing something special in the SPFL.

“And I’m really pleased with how the pre-season started and how the recruitment has gone and it’s an exciting time to be a Hearts fan.

“I think, hopefully we’ll have a big improvement on the league position from last season. And I think we can generally have a real chance of going for the title, really pushing Celtic this season. I think that would be a big success, even if we don’t quite make it this season.”

Bloom went on to qualify his comments by saying that whilst he doesn’t expect a title challenge to Celtic this year, he will be ‘disappointed’ if it doesn’t happen within the next decade.

However, Boyd picked up on a hidden message to Rangers within the Hearts investor’s comments.

Boyd believes that Bloom’s analytical approach could be a gamechanger for Hearts and that he could challenge Celtic for the title.

But it’s what the Hearts man didn’t say about Rangers that the Sky Sports pundit noticed.

Boyd told Sky Sports, “It’s a snobbery from Scottish football to think it’s not going to work, because we’ve got two huge clubs here.

“The reality is, we know how shrewd and the information, the data and everything that he’s got. So for him to come out and say that, he feels as if he can turn this around very quickly, suggests to me that he doesn’t really see Rangers and Celtic, especially Rangers, when he’s just totally dismissed them as any threat for him.

“And he will feel with the analytic company, that he can throw down a challenge is ignorance from Scottish football to think that it can’t be done.”

To be fair to Bloom, Celtic have been the dominant team in Scotland for well over two decades so if the Hearts director is going to aim for something, he has to go for the top.
