Pakistan Suffer MASSIVE Rs 869 Crore Loss After Hosting Champions Trophy 2025: Report Photo : APThe Champions Trophy 2025 got over a few days earlier with India winning a record third championship. Pakistan were the official hosts of the tournament, even though India played all their matches in Dubai after they refused to travel to Pakistan owing to security reasons. The Mohammad Rizwan-led team had a horrific tournament, as they became the first home side to be knocked out of the group stage of the competition without a single win. The PCB , on the other hand, too had a pretty bad tournament, as they suffered massive monetary losses.According to a report by The Telegraph, Pakistan spent INR 557 crore to rebuild their three stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, thus going more than 50 percent over budget. They later spent another Rs 346.7 crores on event preparations. However, they received only INR 52 crores as hosting fees by the ICC.The sales from tickets and money from sponsorships was also negligible. This is mainly because Pakistan played only one game at home in the entire tournament- against New Zealand in Karachi. Their second group game was in Dubai vs India , while their third match in Rawalpindi vs Bangladesh was washed out.Hence, the report concludes that PCB has made a whopping loss of Rs 869 crore from organizing the Champions Trophy 2025, which was the first ICC event thatat they hosted in 29 years since the 1996 ODI World Cup.PCB Take Massive Steps After Financial LossThe massive loss of Rs 869 crore has forced the PCB to make some major but questionable decisions. The board decided to reduced the match fees for the national T20 tournament by 90 percent, while reducing the fees for the reserve players by a whopping 87.5 percent. As per a report by The Dawn, the PCB reduced the match fees from PKR 40,000 to PKR 10,000 without any prior notice. However, the decision was reverted after interference from PCB chief Mohsin Maqvi.
