This could be Andy Robertson’s final bow as a Liverpool player.Last summer, there were suggestions that Robertson could leave Anfield, and there were even links to his boyhood club, Celtic.Robertson has never played for Celtic’s senior side, but he did come through the ranks at Parkhead before leaving in 2009 and joining Queen’s Park. The Scotland captain hasn’t looked back since, including a near decade of service to Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League, as the left-back discussed his future on Merseyside.Poll: Should Celtic sign Andy Robertson? It needs to be noted that Robertson is out-of-contract in the summer, so he either leaves for nothing or signs a new deal. The issue for the 31-year-old is the fact that he is now a squad player under Arne Slot and is playing behind big-money summer signing, Milo Kerkez. That’s why Robertson told BBC Sport that he needs to ‘sit down with my family and decide’ what his future holds, as he isn’t ruling out leaving in the summer because he simply wants to play on a regular basis.MORE CELTIC STORIES“Yes, but it’s a difficult question,” said Robertson on whether he wants to stay at Liverpool.“I’ve got five months left, and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there are options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide.“After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it and being a Liverpool player. I wanted to qualify for the World Cup, and thankfully, we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants going forward.“I can focus on the last eight and a half years. I think Jurgen Klopp left me out for one game, and I was raging. So I’m a player who wants to play.“I’ve played through injuries. I’ve played when I’m not 100% fit. I’ve played when I’ve only been 50/40/30% fit for this club and my country. I always want to be on the grass and playing, and obviously, now that’s not happening, so that’s what is different.“I have a different role here this season, which I’m getting enjoyment out of, but at the end of the day, footballers want to play, and if anyone is sitting happy on the bench, then they don’t belong at any football club.“Maybe I’ve not played as much as I would have liked, but it’s nothing I’ve been surprised by. Let’s see what happens.”Celtic’s left-back options going into the summer…Celtic brought back Kieran Tierney in the summer, on a free transfer from Arsenal, so it’s a road the champions of Scotland could go down again. The issue is, Celtic don’t know who their coach will be for next season, as Martin O’Neill takes interim charge again, and you also have Marcelo Saracchi at the club.Yes, Saracchi is on loan from Boca Juniors until the end of the season, but he has probably outperformed Tierney this term, and many wouldn’t mind the idea of the Uruguayan putting pen to paper on a long-term contract. If that’s the case, then you can’t see Robertson as a Celtic player next season. However, if Saracchi doesn’t stay on board, it surely opens that door.
