Manchester United have already been active in the summer transfer window as they look to back head coach Ruben Amorim.

Having completed the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, United are also working on completing a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. The club are reported to have put a second bid on the table worth up to £60 million.

But he’s not the only player to be heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Another name who keeps being mentioned is Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has caught the eye with his impressive goalscoring exploits since arriving in Portugal from Coventry. Amorim is reportedly eying a reunion with his former striker.

Gyokeres has an £85 million release clause in his contract, although Sporting are willing to take a fee of around £60 million for the player this summer. United though, are not the only club interested, with Arsenal also heavily linked with the forward.

Here’s a look at the latest reports surrounding the 27-year-old.

United ‘ready’ to win race

The club are ‘ready’ to beat Arsenal to the signing of Gyokeres, according to the Sun . The report points to the dip in United’s expenses shown in their latest quarterly results, meaning that they are ready to make a move for the striker.

Ruben Amorim is said to be keen to raid his former club and beat Arsenal to the signing, while the Gunners work on a deal for Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Gyokeres stance

Our collegues at the Mirror however report that the striker will pick a move to Arsenal, should he get a choice of the two clubs this summer. The opportunity to play Champions League football is outlined as one of the reasons.

United’s poor season in the Premier League, and loss in the Europa League final against Tottenham means that’s something they can’t provide next season.

Announcement made

It was announced earlier in the week that Gyokeres would not be taking part in either of Sweden’s two matches over the current international break due to a minor injury. Sweden took on Hungary in Budapest on Friday night, with goals from Benjamin Nygren and Yasin Ayari giving then a 2-0 win.

On Tuesday they host Algeria, but will again be without Gyokeres. He left the camp with what was described as a minor injury.
