Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has said that Shivam Dube smacking Shamar Joseph for two boundaries in the penultimate over was a crucial point in the virtual quarterfinal clash against the West Indies, which India won by five wickets to book a semifinal spot at the T20 World Cup.

Dube walked to the crease late in the innings after Hardik Pandya’s dismissal, with India needing 17 runs from 10 deliveries. He eased the pressure, smashing a boundary off his first ball and adding another four off the penultimate delivery of the 19th over.

Those fours reduced India’s target to just seven runs from the final over, which Sanju Samson wrapped up with four deliveries to spare. Bumrah pointed out that while Dube’s cameo was brief and might go unnoticed, its impact was crucial.

“You know, obviously, the two fours that Dube hit, it is in the cricketing books and stats, nobody will really appreciate that, but the people who really know cricket, the two fours really did not set the pressure on us because sometimes 8-9 runs in the last over, it can get tricky sometimes," Bumrah said while speaking to ICC.

Bumrah was instrumental with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/36 from his four overs. He removed Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase in the same over, derailing the West Indies’ innings.

“The wicket was holding up, so we wanted to use our variation. We didn’t want to bowl too fast because that was an easy option. Hit our back of length, use our change of pace, so we wanted to make run scoring as difficult as possible and today was a good day where I got some wickets," Bumrah said.

The Indian team’s run chase was led by Samson, who finished with an unbeaten 97 to seal the semifinal spot.
