Wayne Rooney criticises BlueCo and tells Todd Boehly the signing Chelsea need to make

It all started so well for Liam Rosenior at Chelsea, but the last fortnight has been horrendous. A third defeat in six Premier League games, and Wayne Rooney has laid blame at Todd Boehly’s door.

Watching on for his Match of the Day analysis, Rooney saw his boyhood club demolish Everton with a 3-0 scoreline at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Beto scored twice, while Iliman Ndiaye scored his sixth this season.

Chelsea lacked edge in attack and the same issues in defence cost them a result. More mistakes from Robert Sanchez in goal, and a lack of experience at centre-back meant Rosenior’s side had no chance.

Should Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior? Or are the players to blame?🤔

Clearly, this is an issue that goes beyond Rosenior. The manager is struggling to deal with the same issues that got Enzo Maresca sacked, yet it will be Rosenior who loses his job. Rooney had his say on Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney’s criticism of Todd Boehly and BlueCo

The punditry world is starting to get it. Last week, Joe Cole went on a rant about Boehly’s five-year plan and now, even non-supporting Chelsea pundits are realising this is not a Rosenior problem, it’s Boehly.

Amid all the criticism and cringe that Rosenior has forced upon himself in press conferences, the issues at Chelsea stem from upstairs. Rooney named the signing Chelsea need and criticised Boehly’s approach.

“I still think they need a forward, I know Joao Pedro has done well, but if you want to go and challenge for the big trophies, then you need that centre-forward that is going to inspire you,” Rooney said on MOTD.

“Every successful squad that wins trophies has got experience. With this model of buying young players, selling them, bringing more young players, trying to develop them, it is going to be difficult,” he added.

The international break comes at the perfect time

For Chelsea, they needed a moment to breathe. The silver lining is that Liverpool also suffered defeat on the weekend, and that keeps Chelsea’s top-five hopes alive. The two sides do battle on May 9 at Anfield.

They remain in the hunt for silverware with an FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale, a game they should win. Things are not all bad, but Rosenior needs to turn things around quickly after one league win in six.

Chelsea are becoming a laughing stock under Rosenior 😑

Embarrassing.

But will he be given the chance? The international break is notorious for seeing managers sacked and replaced quickly. Despite all the criticism they are receiving, Rosenior’s fate will be down to the owners.

It is believed that Champions League football remains the expectation and it is certainly possible. The owners are not expected to sack Rosenior. He just needs to get to the summer, his job still intact.

Rosenior was dealt a bad hand when he took the job. A Chelsea side lacking experience, injuries aplenty. To keep his job, Chelsea need to stumble into the Champions League and then he gets a pre-season.
