Thrashed in Perth, Australia could not have asked for a much better start to the second Test in Adelaide.

They dismissed India for 180 then got through the final session under lights against the new ball for the loss of one wicket - Usman Khawaja.

Test newbie Nathan McSweeney gets to the dressing room unbeaten on 38, and the under-siege Marnus Labuschagne is not out on 20 after taking an age to get off the mark.

Both players batted with courage and determination. They left confidently and waited for India’s bowlers to come to him.

Thirteen byes didn’t hurt either.

At stumps, Australia are 1/86, trailing by 94. They’ll have about four hours of natural light to bat through before the lights take effect.
