New Rangers recruit Andreas Skov Olsen is adamant he’s moving to Ibrox for the long-haul.

But Gers’ statement signing also admits there will be no shortcut to success this season.

The Denmark international was treated to a hero’s reception on Friday night as he was unveiled at Ibrox following the completion of his six-month switch from Wolfsburg.

The temporary transfer could yet be made permanent for a fee Record Sport understands to be around £8million after an option to buy was priced into the loan package.

But for that to happen, Skov Olsen will have to rediscover the kind of dazzling form he’s shown previously with former clubs Nordsjaelland and Club Brugge.

The 26-year-old first appeared on Rangers’ radar shortly after a breakout campaign in which he blasted a remarkable 26 goals in 44 appearances for his boyhood club.

That Nordsjaelland glut soon won him a move to Bologna but while things didn’t work out in Italy, Gers continued to keep close tabs on the talented wideman.

Former boss Gio van Bronckhorst even attempted to lure him to Scotland back in 2022 but was forced to watch with envy as Skov Olsen instead opted for a move to Belgium, where he went on to rip it up by scoring almost 50 times over three years.

After winning two league titles and a Belgian Super Cup, he was on the move again to Germany.

But Skov Olsen struggled to live up to his £12million price tag with the Bundesliga outfit over the last year and has now decided to join Gers in the hope of getting back to his best.

That’s music to the ears of the fevered Ibrox fanbase, who believe he could make the difference in Danny Rohl’s effort to crown his resurgent side as Scotland’s comeback kings.

But having been over the course and distance with Brugge, Skov Olsen knows piping Hearts and Celtic to the finish line won’t be easy.

Asked if it was his hope that his Rangers switch would become permanent in the summer, he declared emphatically: “Definitely!

“The aim here is to be the best team every year in Scotland. That's why I really wanted to come here, to be a part of that.

"There was some contact with Rangers before, some years ago.

"So I'm so happy I'm finally here and I can't wait to start. I would love to win trophies, but I know it's one game at the time.

"We have to focus on one game and then hopefully see where it ends at the end of the season, but we're going for it for sure.

“Playing a part in the title race was something that excited me. It's very tight and that's what I said. It's one game at the time.

"You cannot look too far.

"You have to have a look on the next game and make sure you win that.”

Skov Olsen got his first peek at his new team-mates as they swept past Annan in the Scottish Cup.

But the punters who roared his arrival out of the tunnel before the 5-0 rout will have to wait a little longer before they see him in a blue jersey.

The Dane is ineligible for Thursday’s Europa League dead rubber with Ludogorets - and that goes for fellow new boys Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.

But Skov Olsen will be raring to go when Rangers host Dundee next Sunday.

He said: "I feel very good to be here. It was lovely to come to Ibrox and meet the team, meet the fans and the people around the club.

"So Friday was a lovely night. A good win for the team. So yeah, I'm happy.

"I'm looking forward to having my first training with the team and I’m ready to go.

“Rangers is the biggest club here in Scotland.

“So when I heard the interest from here, I just really wanted to go and I'm super happy that it finally is done and I'm here.

“What can the fans expect? I am an offensive player. Mostly on the wing. I would describe myself as a creative player.

"I also like to set my mates up, to provide assists, to shoot and go, come inside, come outside, go to the back line, put in some crosses.

"So yeah, hopefully I can contribute with the goals and assists."

That all sounds eerily familiar to a supporter base who have fond memories of another great Dane.

It was the advice from a certain Ibrox icon that helped persuade Skov Olsen to make his move to Glasgow.

And he knows that if can do half as well as Brian Laudrup managed during his golden stint in the 90s, he’ll become a firm fans favourite.

Asked if he was hoping to emulate his countryman’s impact in Scotland, he said: "Yeah, that would be very nice.

“I believe I have much more to give and to develop more and become a better player every day.

"So yeah, definitely I can reach higher levels than I have previously.

“I’ve spoken with Brian obviously. I can tell you a bit about it.

"He first of all told me about his time here, about the club, the city, the people, and the time he had, how great it was, and he gave me some advice for the club and the city.

"So that was basically it and then just a normal conversation about life.

"Of course I know I’m under pressure to perform here, but it's not nice to play football if there's no pressure and that's also what comes with playing for Rangers, the huge pressure there is and it's just lovely.

"I can't wait to feel it and to hopefully perform under it.

“Hopefully, the manager here can help bring the best out of me.

"As he also mentioned, I can contribute with what I'm good at, and I have to do that, and I have to go in and show the things I’ve shown already.

"So that's what I have to help the team with, to score goals and help my mates score goals."
