Thomas Tuchel tells Man Utd they can sign a 'mini Valderde' this summer amid transfer links

Manchester United’s midfield search could do worse than signing a version of Federico Valverde, and now Thomas Tuchel has told Ineos how to do this.

With Sandro Tonali quickly becoming Manchester United’s priority this summer in the midfield, addition could soon turn to Ineos’ anticipated second midfield summer signing.

Carlos Baleba links are persisting, with the Brighton and Hove Albion star considered on a separate list and the personal side of this transfer would be easy to do.

But another potential addition is James Garner, and now he’s got huge praise from Thomas Tuchel.

IF Elliot Anderson signs for Man City, who would be your TOP PRIORITY midfield alternative?

Thomas Tuchel says James Garner is like Federico Valverde

James Garner made his England debut alongside Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo on Friday night, and it is safe to say he had a brilliant first cap.

Speaking to the press after England’s draw with Uruguay, Tuchel hailed Garner for his all-round performance.

“I am very happy, he’s our mini [Federico] Valverde. He’s getting there and he played very, very good. I was quite sure that he would play well because he has this natural confidence and he’s very physical; he won a lot of balls. There are some situations where he can be a bit more open and drive through midfield with the ball with a little bit more confidence.

“In the last 10 minutes of the first half, he was involved in some ball losses, which cost us some confidence in the final 10 minutes. But I am very impressed with the way he trained, and the way he behaved and the way he played tonight.”

Valverde is one of the best in the world, and so to even be a ‘mini’ version of him is impressive and makes him an attractive midfield proposition.

United have been linked with a move for Garner this year, and his performances mean that interest is surely only heading in an upward trajectory.

If you were Man United’s director of football with £200m to spend in the summer, what would be your dream window?

Who comes and who goes?

Manchester United must learn from James Garner sale

Re-signing Garner looks increasingly like a good decision with his brilliance undeniable, as he only gets better. But there is a lesson in this for United.

United sold Garner for just £15m, cutting ties with the academy graduate to appease Erik ten Hag who didn’t rate him.

But since, this decision has been proven wrong time and time again.

United might not sign Garner, with alternatives clearly considered more enticing right now. But Ineos could do a lot worse than the Everton star.

Definitely one to watch, as if Garner continues to shine, there will be a massive race to sign him.
