"Rohit Sharma shouldn't play Test cricket": Mohammad Kaif blasts senior batter for his blunder in Sydney

Former India player Mohammad Kaif slammed Rohit Sharma for opting out of the fifth and final Test against Australia. He felt Rohit should have led the side in the must-win game instead of sitting out due to poor form. Kaif mentioned that Rohit should have fulfilled his responsibility to lead the team in Sydney.

Rohit Sharma scored 31 runs in three Tests before skipping the match in Sydney. While Irfan Pathan, Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar lauded Rohit for his decision, Kaif refused to accept the call and mentioned that his team missed him.

India had a chance to level the series but the visitors ended up losing the match by 6 wickets, surrendering the prestigious trophy to Australia after 10 years. Rohit’s absence was felt when stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was injured midway through the fifth Test. Virat Kohli led the side.

“Rohit Sharma should not play Test cricket because when he was needed the most, he decided to skip the match in Sydney,” Kaif said.

“No one was scoring runs and Rohit should have considered it before opting out of the game. His absence was felt when Bumrah was injured. Rohit had all the information and he knows about the roles of the players. Team India was left without a captain when Bumrah was injured. There was no Bumrah and Rohit.

“Kohli was away from the role for years and he was suddenly asking Siraj and Jadeja about their plans. There was no one to support the bowlers. Rohit’s decision was wrong.”
