John Terry has a message for Cole Palmer as Chelsea star linked with Manchester United again

It seemed ridiculous in January, but some reports claimed Cole Palmer was open to leaving Chelsea and joining Man United. He and Liam Rosenior have since rubbished those claims.

The reports suggested that 23-year-old Palmer was unhappy and even homesick at Chelsea. But actually, public signs of frustration – like at full-time against Brentford – were simply due to his groin injury.

Rosenior described Palmer as “untouchable,” and after his hat-trick on Saturday, Palmer used colourful language to describe the rumours as rubbish. He has a contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2033.

But reports after the weekend claim that Palmer would be open to joining Man United, and Chelsea would consider a sale if £150m was placed on the table. To Chelsea fans, selling Palmer is unthinkable.

John Terry is hoping Cole Palmer stays at Chelsea for years

Incredibly, Palmer has become Chelsea’s eighth-highest all-time Premier League record goalscorer with a total of 42 goals. A reminder – Palmer is still only 23 years of age, something that is quite easily forgotten.

Speaking on his TikTok channel, Chelsea legend John Terry applauded Palmer for reaching such a feat, which has seen him overtake Terry. The latter hopes Palmer remains at Stamford Bridge for many years.

“Congratulations Cole Palmer on your hat-trick, but also for surpassing JT in the all-time [Chelsea] Premier League goals record list. Now in eighth, JT knocked down to ninth. This is one record I don’t mind losing.

“Hopefully, your goals continue, your form continues, and we can keep you at our football club for many years to come and keep adding to that tally. 84 appearances, 44 goals in the Premier League. Incredible.

“Eight now behind Diego Costa, he’s the next one you need to chase down, but I’m sure he’d love to see that done by the end of the season,” Terry emphasised, as Palmer continues to score goals regularly.

In all competitions, Palmer now has a whopping 51 goals in 114 Chelsea games, and that’s before we even talk about his assists. After the same number of games, Didier Drogba scored 49 Chelsea goals.

Palmer has overtaken Drogba, an incredible achievement. Whether Palmer is fit enough to start remains to be seen tonight, when Chelsea host Leeds. Liam Rosenior told reporters that Palmer is good to go.

That is, after hauling Palmer off after 60 minutes at Wolves. Paul Merson claims Palmer’s form is as good as a proper no.9 and he isn’t wrong, almost scoring at a rate of a goal every other game in a Blues shirt.

Ultimately, Palmer does not look as though he will be leaving Chelsea anytime soon, if not because the club opt to keep him, but simply because the backlash from supporters would be huge if he did depart.
