Sweden national team manager Jon Dahl Tomasson believes Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres would be 'fantastic in the Premier League'.

United are set to be in the market to sign a new forward this summer and Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a reunion with former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Amorim signed Gyokeres for the Portuguese giants from Coventry City in the summer of 2023 and helped the Sweden international to become one of the most prolific forwards in European football.

His 43-goal haul in all competitions last season helped Amorim and Sporting win the Portuguese league and, ultimately, paved the way for Manchester United to make their move for the Portuguese boss in November.

The 26-year-old has continued his fine goalscoring form this season, too, and has scored 40 goals in as many games in all competitions at club level this term.

As a result, he is set to be one of the most sought after forwards in the transfer market this summer and Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is confident Gyokeres has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League amid interest from United.

“Gyokeres would be fantastic in the Premier League,” the former Blackburn Rovers boss told the Mirror ahead of their friendly with Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

“He could play for any club in the world and he would score a lot of goals anywhere. Him and Isak are two quite different players, but they’re both world-class strikers.”

Tomasson has an embarrassment of riches to choose from up front, with Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak also in Sweden's ranks.

And after Isak scored his 23rd goal of the season to help Newcastle win the Carabao Cup last weekend, their first piece of major silverware for 56 years, Tomasson has dubbed the 25-year-old the best forward in the Premier League.

"Obviously I’m biased, but Isak is the best striker in the Premier League in my opinion,” said the former Newcastle forward.

"He’s just won a cup and was instrumental for Newcastle in that game, as he always is. Trophies are important milestones in a player’s career.

"He’ll always remember winning the cup and he’ll always remember scoring in the final, it’s a special feeling. I’m extremely happy with him playing for Sweden. He’s a great player and a great person.”
