Michael Carrick among Man Utd candidates for Premier League awards

Michael Carrick has enjoyed the perfect start after returning to Manchester United as head coach in January.

The 44-year-old was out of work when Ruben Amorim was sacked at the beginning of the year, so it quickly emerged that Manchester United had options.

Michael Carrick won the race for the head coach role, and United have not looked back since. The Red Devils are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League after three wins in as many games under the former midfield ace.

These wins have lifted the mood at Old Trafford, where United will hope to make it four on the bounce when they host Carrick’s former club Tottenham in the early kick-off on Saturday.

A win for United would also see the team remain unbeaten in the league since losing 2-1 against Aston Villa on December 21.

Carrick has been nominated for the January award for Premier League Manager of the Month. The other candidates include Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) and Liam Rosenior (Chelsea).

Amorim won the award once during his 14-month reign at United.

Patrick Dorgu nominated for Premier League Player of the Month

While Carrick keeps getting results as head coach, one United player made the nominees for Premier League Player of the Month.

Patrick Dorgu’s brilliant start to 2026 has earned him a place on the shortlist, even though the Dane has been ruled out with injury since United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal at The Emirates.

Some of Dorgu’s contributions include an assist for Benjamin Sesko in United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley.

The 21-year-old went on to score goals in both games against Man City and Arsenal.

Carrick will be keen to get Dorgu back fit to play on the left wing, but no specific return date has been issued by the club.
