Bangladesh assistant coach quits ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

Nick Pothas, the assistant coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, has resigned ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that Pothas' contract was valid until 2026, but he decided to resign for personal reasons.

Nick Pothas expressed his gratitude for his time with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, stating, "I’ve had a great time with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. During this journey, we broke several records, made history, and created many memorable moments."

Pothas added that he now plans to spend some time at home and look forward to the next chapter in his career. "It’s time to spend some time at home and see what the next chapter holds," he concluded.

Earlier, Bangladesh became the first Asian team to announce their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, naming a 15-member team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Veteran all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan was excluded from the squad. His omission followed a failed second bowling action test at England’s Loughborough University last month, which resulted in a ban on his bowling in both domestic and international cricket.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had been considering his inclusion until the failed test. Shakib’s absence left a significant gap in the team, but Shanto, a rising star, captained the side for the prestigious tournament.
