Novak Djokovic gave his view on Danielle Collins’ actions towards the Australian Open crowds.

The 37-year-old has not always had the best relationship with audiences who have attended his matches.

This is something Novak Djokovic once struggled with but he now appears to embrace any adversity he faces and use it as fuel to raise his game.

Collins enjoys using a rowdy crowd to lift her level as she did against home favourite Destanee Aiava in the second round at Melbourne Park. Collins’ post-match reaction resulted in boos and jeers from those inside John Cain Arena.

What did Novak Djokovic say about Danielle Collins at the Australian Open?

The likes of Danielle Collins, and also Jack Draper, received negative crowd reactions during their matches against home players at the Australian Open.

Djokovic was subject to heckling during his encounter with Tomas Machac on Friday, the latest on a list of incidents with fans giving a player a hard time at 2025’s first Grand Slam of the year.

Collins sarcastically thanked her detractors for “paying her bills” after reaching the third round, in addition to putting her hands to her ears and blowing more kisses to the crowd.

When asked about her reaction to the hostile crowd, Djokovic, an 11-time Australian Open winner, said: “I loved her response.

“I loved it, everything she said on the court, off the court. I’m a big fan of Danielle Collins after that. I was before, but now, a big fan. I love it.”

Novak Djokovic overcomes heckling to reach Australian Open forth round

Djokovic overcame a tough opponent and rowdy fans to reach the round 16 at the Australian Open for the 17th time in his illustrious career.

He faced the dangerous Machac, and it was expected they would produce a thriller that could have gone to five sets.

But Djokovic produced a fine display to see off the Czech player in straight sets after two hours and 22 minutes of play. When asked if any of the crowd crossed the line with their reaction during his match, Djokovic told reporters: “Few people here and there. Yeah.

“I understand you have few drinks more, and then you get into it. But, you know, on the court it’s frustrating, and it comes in a bad moment.

“If it’s repetitive, it happens for an hour, somebody tells you in the corner things that you don’t want to hear and constant provoking, then of course it comes to the point where you just respond (smiling). So I tried to tolerate, but then at one point I had to respond, and that’s all. That’s all to say about it.”
