Man Utd now considering solution for 'frustrated' Kobbie Mainoo which could end in major signing

This season has been the most frustrating of Kobbie Mainoo’s young career to date at Manchester United.

As the Premier League season nears the one-third point, Kobbie Mainoo still awaits his first start of the league campaign.

Ruben Amorim has admitted Mainoo deserves to play; however, in the same breath, he mentioned that he can’t drop anyone to accommodate the 20-year-old.

Mainoo is frustrated by his lack of game time, getting minutes only when United are comfortable in games, which has made it a rarity.

But United in Focus now understands that a potential solution is being worked on.

Manchester United now plotting a new solution to Kobbie Mainoo problem

Mainoo wanted to leave United on loan in the summer, but the club turned him down, insisting he was needed. However, this hasn’t been the case.

Now, United in Focus understands that Kobbie Mainoo’s best way out of Manchester United could very well be based on someone coming the other way.

Mainoo’s camp have reiterated a desire to go on loan in January due to frustrations over his contract and playing time.

United in Focus have learned that intermediaries have confirmed to United that Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton & Hove Albion all have an interest in Mainoo.

In theory, this could help in their pursuit of one of their primary 2026 targets – those being Adam Wharton, Elliott Anderson, and Carlos Baleba.

Likewise, another side who would consider Mainoo is Atletico Madrid, which could aid a possible renewed effort for Conor Gallagher.

However, for now, United is resisting Mainoo’s requests.

“Mainoo is hugely frustrated with life at the moment and his camp have again held talks with United to try and reach an agreement over his future.

“Mainoo is open to leaving, we know that – he just wants to be playing, but United are saying no, and I can confirm that remains their stance. The club insists he remains highly rated, but he just has to be patient for playing time.

“The news that the likes of Palace, Forest and Brighton could be interested is interesting, but again that is likely for post-January, which won’t help in the short-term.

“Mainoo will also be frustrated to know that United are ready to let Joshua Zirkzee leave on loan in the New Year. I believe at this point, Mainoo’s only hope of leaving is if the club manages to bring another midfielder during the January window, and even then, it isn’t certain they would let him out.”

If it gets to January and Mainoo is still getting just a few minutes per game, surely the club would agree to let him go and play regular football.

Especially if it meant getting a midfielder who would play every game in his place.
