Celtic Kieran Tierney timeline emerges as four-way battle for fringe man comes to light - January transfer bulletin

0
Celtic are on the hunt for reinforcements and there is plenty of speculation doing the rounds regarding who could come in to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ squad this month.

The Bhoys hold a substantial lead in the Scottish Premiership and are also in contention to secure Champions League qualification, which may have a hand in appealing to potential new recruits.

Despite the frustrating nature of Celtic’s defeat to Rangers in midweek, there are lessons to be learned that could lead to no stone being unturned on the market to maximise squad depth moving forward.

Brendan Rodgers has his work cut out to determine which areas could do with some polishing while the bulk of his time goes into utilising the tools at his disposal efficiently.

Quality over quantity is likely to be the approach, but there is plenty going on behind the scenes as Celtic aim to acquire some fresh blood.

Celtic Kieran Tierney timeline starts to become clearer

Unless you have been living under a rock in recent weeks, you will be aware that Celtic are pushing to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal, and there looks to be progress on that front.

Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Bhoys are ‘confident’ they can seal an emotional return for the defender as he enters the final few months of his deal at the Emirates Stadium.

MORE CELTIC STORIES

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic could wrap up a pre-contract agreement to sign Tierney in the next week.

Once that reaches completion, the Scottish Premiership champions and Arsenal will likely engage in a game of poker that could potentially see a deal thrashed out for the Scotland international to travel north of the border this month.

Celtic winger Luis Palma at centre of four-way transfer pursuit

Genova Today reported yesterday that Genoa are the latest side to show interest in Luis Palma as he moves closer to the Parkhead exit door.

Olympiacos are also keen on the Honduras international following his descent into a peripheral role at Celtic over the last few months.

Last month, 67 Hail Hail broke that MLS clubs Atlanta United and Orlando City want to sign Palma and are in the running this month, adding to the pool of options available to the winger following a frustrating time of things in Glasgow.

While his professionalism at Celtic is to be admired, the 24-year-old is likely to leave the club in the near future to make space for reinforcements.

Celtic urged to add to their forward line

Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah comprise Celtic’s current pool of forwards, while Johnny Kenny is back training at Lennoxtown following his successful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.

However, Andy Walker has urged the Bhoys to loan in a striker for the remainder of the campaign to help share the load during a busy fixture run.

He stated: “Well, Maeda can play through the middle if you had a real problem, but obviously Kyogo is the number one recognised striker. Idah, they sort of take it in turns, but you look at the bench today and you’ve got wide players.

“Apart from Idah, you’ve got wide players. Palma is there, Yang is there, Forrest wasn’t on the bench today, he wasn’t involved, but who knows?

“They might go for someone on loan, just to, because they have Champions League football, remember, and I think you can, you can re-register. I don’t know if you can over for the next round.”
