Real Oviedo Requests Administrative Win Against Rayo Vallecano

Real Oviedo has submitted a formal request to the Royal Spanish Football Federation seeking to be awarded an administrative victory over Rayo Vallecano after their scheduled match was postponed due to the poor condition of the playing surface at Vallecas Stadium. The Asturian club argues that the suspension was not handled in accordance with federation regulations and that both the organizers and the home side failed to meet required standards.

The club, which is part of Mexico’s Orlegi ownership group, confirmed it has activated official channels to defend its position and pursue a favorable ruling through regulatory bodies. The case could escalate into a disciplinary process that sets an important precedent for how similar situations are handled in Spanish football.

In its public statement, Real Oviedo maintains that the match postponement did not comply with current federation rules. For that reason, the club is requesting that the game be recorded as a win in its favor, claiming there were organizational and compliance failures tied to the conditions required to stage the match.

The club also stated it is prepared to take the matter before every relevant disciplinary body within the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In addition, it has not ruled out going to administrative or judicial courts if necessary to protect its sporting rights and the legitimate interests of its supporters.

According to the club’s position, this was not simply a routine weather-related delay, but a situation involving accountability in match preparation and oversight.

Another key argument centers on the role played by LaLiga in calling off the match. Based on comments from general director Agustín Lleida, the club believes the league may not have had the proper authority to suspend the game in the manner it did.

Agustín Lleida explained that the club’s legal team is reviewing whether the procedure used could qualify as a serious breach under sports law. That legal assessment is ongoing and could lead to further action against those deemed responsible.

The dispute creates the unusual possibility that a match could be decided administratively rather than on the pitch. If disciplinary authorities rule in favor of Real Oviedo, the result could be officially awarded without the game being played.

For now, both Rayo Vallecano and the competition authorities remain under scrutiny. The final decision will not only affect the standings, but could also influence how future match suspensions are resolved across professional Spanish football.
