Sharmila Tagore ‘hurt’ by BCCI’s decision to retire trophy named after Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi: ‘If they don’t want to remember Tiger’s legacy…’

Actor Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s wedding was the talk of the town back in 1968. The revered Indian cricketer marrying the acclaimed actor united arguably two of the most important aspects of Indian culture, cinema and cricket. While ‘Tiger’ Pataudi’s legacy has always been looked after, it seems that the BCCI and ECB are reportedly planning to retire the Pataudi trophy, which has reportedly upset Sharmila Tagore.

Played between India and England, the Test series began in 2007 to commemorate the first India vs England Test in 1932. While the decision is yet to be finalised, Sharmila has already spoken against it after her son, actor Saif Ali Khan, was notified of the move. “I haven’t heard from them, but the ECB has sent a letter to Saif that they are retiring the trophy. If the BCCI wants to or does not want to remember Tiger’s legacy, it is for them to decide,” she told Hindustan Times, who reported that she is ‘hurt’ by the move.
