Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew and Austrian teenager Lilli Tagger booked their places in the Mumbai Open 2026 WTA 125 tournament’s singles title clash with semi-final wins at the MSLTA courts on Saturday.The first semi-final was a repeat of last edition's quarter-final between Mananchaya Sawangkaew and fellow Thai player Lanlana Tararudee.In a topsy-turvy encounter, Mananchaya Sawangkaew took the lead in the first set before faltering in the second.However, Mananchaya responded strongly to eventually seal the deal, securing a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win in an hour and 53 minutes to book her place in the finals for the second time in as many years.Mananchaya Sawangkaew will also contest for the doubles title, having made the summit clash with Argentinian partner Nicole Fossa Huergo on Friday.In the second singles semi-final, seventh seed Lilli Tagger, just 17, extended her inspired run in the tournament, securing a straight-sets victory against Fangran Tian of the People’s Republic of China.The 22-year-old Chinese player, who was unseeded in the tournament, delivered a spirited display but eventually fell short as the Austrian prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to confirm her place in the final.In the second doubles semi-finals, Elena Pridankina and Polina Iatcenko came from behind against France’s Leolia Jeanjean and Switzerland’s Naima Karamoko.Having lost the first set, Pridankina-Iatcenko won the second and eventually clinched the tiebreaker, registering a 2-6, 6-4, (10-2) win to progress to the final.Elena Pridankina won the title last year with Amina Anshba.India’s challenge at the Mumbai Open tennis tournament ended on Thursday.
