Ruben Amorim outlines what Alejandro Garnacho needs to have a bright future at Manchester United

Alejandro Garnacho has been the subject of transfer speculation.

Manchester United fans won’t like the idea of selling academy graduates with potential like Alejandro Garnacho, but the media is pushing the idea that he could be sold.

Ineos are trying to raise cash and Garnacho is one of United’s most valuable assets.

Paris Saint-Germain showed an interest in Garnacho, but the French giants are now on the verge of signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. That deal has led to reports that Napoli bid £38m for Garnacho this week to replace the Georgian star.

It was later stated that United set a £58m asking price for Garnacho, which is still a bargain price for a 20-year-old with the potential to become the best.

The Independent claim that Napoli are working on a potential deal, and Garnacho is said to be open to a move that would see him link up with former team-mate Scott McTominay, who has flourished in Italy.

Ruben Amorim gives Alejandro Garnacho hope for Manchester United future

Ruben Amorim is implementing his philosophy at Old Trafford, which involves United’s first-team adapting to a completely different style of football.

The United head coach knows it will take time and that is why he is not ruling out Garnacho’s chances of having a future at the club, despite ongoing speculation over a switch to Serie A.

United beat Arsenal on penalties on Sunday in the FA Cup third round. It was the first time Garnacho had made Amorim’s starting line-up since United’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest in December.

Garnacho had been left out of the squad entirely for the Manchester derby during that time.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Amorim made it clear that Garnacho has a future at United so long as he learns to play in a different position.

“That is clear. He [Garnacho] has talent,” Amorim told reporters.

“He needs to play better inside. He improves a lot recovering (his) position when he doesn’t have the ball.

“But doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past because I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to reach the final third.

“He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see tomorrow (against Southampton).”

Amorim is showing that he has patience with Garnacho and that he believes in him.

A lesson for Marcus Rashford

Like Garnacho, Marcus Rashford was left out of the squad for United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.

The difference is that Garnacho has worked his way back into the manager’s plans.

Rashford, who has been linked with a move away from United, has been absent from the squad in recent weeks due to illness.

It remains to be seen if Rashford will be named in the squad to face Southampton in the Premier League.
