Northern Superchargers rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds

The Northern Superchargers franchise has been renamed SunRisers Leeds. The change is in line with the pattern in The Hundred, where new owners have rebranded franchises. SunRisers acquired 100 per cent of Yorkshire's stake in the team for the Hundred tournament.

"A new era begins," the franchise, which also owns SunRisers Hyderabad in the IPL and SunRisers Eastern Cape in the SA20, said in an announcement through its verified social media handle. "SunRisers is not just a team, it is family, it is emotion, it's passion."

"Orange Army has always shown up in huge numbers with pure passion, from India to South Africa. It's time to paint Headingley orange," Kaviya Maran, owner of the franchise, said. "We're ready to go hard, we're ready to go fearless. We're ready to play with fire. The team is yours, Orange Army. Every wicket, every run and every record is for you."

The Sun Group, the parent company of the SunRisers chain of teams, purchased a 100 per cent share in Yorkshire's Hundred team, the Northern Superchargers, for around 100 million pounds in early 2025, when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) opened up The Hundred teams for private ownership.

Reliance Industries, the owners of the Mumbai Indians, purchased the Oval Invincibles franchise and, staying true to their branding across leagues worldwide, rebranded it as MI London.
