Ronaldo has won a total of 34 trophies across his illustrious career and has also won countless individual honours. However, the biggest trophy in world football i.e. the World Cup has eluded him so far.

Cristiano Ronaldo's long-standing rivalry with Lionel Messi was pretty much over after the latter led Argentina to success in the World Cup in 2022. Now, the 40-year-old has made an interesting claim that he does not dream of winning the biggest trophy in international football. In his interview with Piers Morgan, he said, as quoted by Piers Morgan Uncensored on YouTube:

"If you ask me Cristiano is a dream to win the World Cup? No, it's not a dream."

Morgan then said:

"But it shouldn't define you as a footballer."

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star then stated:

"No. To define what? To define if I'm one of the best in history to win one competition, six games, seven games. You think it's fair?"

Cristiano Ronaldo and his eternal rival Lionel Messi are both likely to become the first two players ever to appear in six World Cup campaigns. Even if Ronaldo claims that he does not dream of winning the World Cup, winning it in 2026 would certainly make his resume even more impressive.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been immense for Portugal over the years and is the most-capped player in football history. With 143 goals in 225 games, he is also the player with highest number of goals at the international stage by some distance.

Speaking on the Obi One podcast, the ex-Chelsea full-back admitted that he loved to watch Messi and used to follow Barcelona for him. He said:

"I played against Messi, he's number one, for sure. By far, there's no one even close. He's the player I most enjoyed watching; I watched every Barcelona game. And you know, every game, every team, every coach who faced Barcelona, their concern was doing something to stop him."

He added:

"Like I said, I watched every Barcelona game, even when I was playing for Deportivo La Coruna or Atletico. If Barcelona was playing on Saturday at eight o'clock at night, I couldn't go out to eat; I had to stay and watch the game because Messi was going to be playing. And when I played against him, my only thought was to stop him, to think about how to try and beat him. He's the player who challenged me the most."

Luis added:

"Of all the players I've seen - because I didn't see Pele or Maradona - I didn't feel anything like that with Messi. He's number one, I'm a huge fan of his, and I think he's brought a lot of joy to many people with his style of play."

Filipe Luis played against both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo numerous times. He faced Messi 27 times and won just thrice while winning five games against Ronaldo in 19 meetings.
