Real Madrid vs Barcelona legends El Clasico Mumbai match squads announced

The star-studded squads for the Real Madrid vs Barcelona legends exhibition match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday have been revealed.

FC Barcelona legends will be led by Olympic silver medallist and FIFA World Cup winner Carles Puyol - one of the very few one-club men in football history.

Among the most decorated players in football, Puyol won six La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and the UEFA Champions League on three occasions with the Catalans.

He will be joined by Javier Saviola, Phillip Cocu, Frank de Boer, Patrick Kluivert, Ludovic Giuly, Ricardo Quaresma as well as World Cup winners Xavi and Rivaldo in the Barcelona legends teams.

Real Madrid will have Ballon d’Or winner Luis Figo, who represented both clubs during his playing days, as captain.

Luis Figo won two La Ligas titles each with Barcelona and Real Madrid besides also lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy with Los Blancos in the 2001-02 season.

He will be joined by legends such as Fernando Morientes and another Ballon d’Or winner Michal Owen in the Los Blancos squad.

Commonly referred to as the El Clasico, the fixture between Real Madrid and Barcelona is among the fiercest rivalries in world football.

This will be the first time that former stars from both Real Madrid and Barcelona will be playing in the iconic El Clasico fixture in India.

While this is Real Madrid’s first visit to India, Barcelona legends visited once before in September 2018 when they faced Indian footballing giants Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Barcelona won the match 6-0 with Javier Saviola, Roger Garcia, Pedro Landi, Jari Litmanen and Jofre Mateu scoring the goals for the Catalans.
