Manchester United has just over a month to sign a new striker before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

Ruben Amorim's side have so far welcomed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as new reinforcements, but an attacker remains high on their priority list. A number of options are being considered, including Nicolas Jackson, Ollie Watkins, and Sesko.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Sesko is a target for United, with the club advancing on a deal to bring the striker to Old Trafford. With that in mind, MEN Sport takes a closer look at the latest news surrounding Sesko.

United 'working on deal '

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano said: "Manchester United have been in contact with Benjamin Sesko's camp since last week and are also in contact with Red Bull Leipzig.

"So Man United spoke to both of them and Christopher Vivell is the name to remember. Vivell is the director of Manchester United, who used to work at RB Group then he went to Chelsea for some time and then to United.

"He has a very good relationship with RB Group and knows Sesko very well, so Vivell is working actively, helping with this deal. Man United are also showing Leipzig the opportunity to include a player into a deal for Sesko.

"Then we have to see if this player would be open to going to Leipzig because they don't play European football for many years so I don't think it will be easy to include a player in this deal."

Newcastle 'interest'

Addressing Newcastle's interest, Romano added: "Newcastle are prepared to pay what it takes to Red Bull Leipzig to sign him. Contract terms, salary, commission, transfer fee, whatever.

"Newcastle are ready to go for Sesko. But this depends on the player and what he wants to do."

Ruben Amorim 'blunt' response

Asked about a move for an update on Sesko’s potential transfer to Old Trafford following United's 4-1 pre-season win over Bournemouth, Amorim said: "No. The important thing is Rasmus is scoring goals and connecting really well with the team.

"We look like a different team today let’s continue with that. I’m really happy with Bryan and Matheus.

"Even Diego you can see he’s a smart guy for a guy who came from Paraguay to the Premier League it’s a really powerful player I’m really happy with these three guys."

Sesko's 'stance'

Romano also noted that the 22-year-old, who has several options on the table, will take the next few days to meet with his family and agent before deciding on his future.

Meanwhile, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg provided further insight into the situation. The striker is said to be impressed with United’s approach and their determination to secure a deal.

'Gentleman's agreement'

When the forward signed a new contract last summer, it included a clause allowing him to leave for a 'special' club.

Romano claims the gentleman's agreement between Sesko and Leipzig could see his price tag reduced to between €70-80m plus €5-10m add-ons.

Denied dream shirt number

If United were to sign Sesko, his preferred number may not be available. The striker currently wears No.30 at RB Leipzig - a number he also wore at Red Bull Salzburg, but it has already been taken by summer signing Diego Leon.

Sesko previously wore No.21 and No.29 earlier in his career.

While No.21 is currently assigned to Antony, the Brazilian is expected to leave the club this summer. Meanwhile, No.29 remains vacant and could be an option.
