Jasprit Bumrah told to take bed rest, no chance of returning to action

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given no statement on Jasprit Bumrah‘s back injury and his return to action. Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and Dubai.

According to the Times of India, the speedster has been told to take bed rest amid no clarity on his injury. Bumrah suffered back spasms midway through the final Test against Australia in Sydney and even went for scans. He didn’t look in discomfort when he returned to the ground but didn’t bowl on Days 2 and 3 of the contest.

It is going to be difficult for Bumrah to return to the field, and the pacer will soon report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

“Bumrah is likely to visit the CoE next week but there is no fixed date yet. He has been told to take bed rest at home as a part of his recovery process. Once the swelling goes, the next step will be taken,” a source told TOI.

The report further added that Bumrah will not be rushed back and there is no clarity on his comeback date and how his current injury will be approached. The 31-year-old is expected to miss a lot of cricket.

“Bed rest is not a good thing for the pacer. I hope he is not down with disc bulge or a muscle swelling. There is a need to wrap him in cotton wool and preserve a bowler like him,” the source added.

Indian players have a hectic schedule ahead with the white-ball matches against England, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the IPL 2025, and the five-Test series in England. The selectors haven’t announced the team for the Champions Trophy, and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is waiting for a report on Jasprit Bumrah before going ahead with the selection process.
