Bayern Munich exec on Real Madrid: ‘They don’t play very good football’

Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß has never been one to hold his tongue, so when he was asked about the club’s upcoming Champions League tie with Real Madrid, needless to say, Hoeneß had takes.

“They don’t play very good football, but they are outstanding in terms of experience; they are in peak physical condition. They are once again not doing so well in the league, but they can rely on their wealth of experience. It would be totally presumptuous to assume that we’ll definitely advance, but we haven’t had such a big chance in terms of playing quality as this year for a long time,” Hoeneß told Deutschen Presse-Agentur (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

That quote was the ultimate embodiment of this GIF as Hoeneß did give the LaLiga club credit for its quality:

While maybe not beautiful football, Real Madrid is playing extremely effective football — just ask Manchester City. Any way you want to slice this, Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid is going to be an absolute war.

When asked about Bayern Munich potentially winning a treble, Hoeneß did not offer a blustery outlook.

“That’s too optimistic. I would say we’ll be German champions. The cup semifinal in Leverkusen will be tough. And you can’t just say you’ll win the Champions League,” Hoeneß said.

Despite the opening part of his initial quote, Hoeneß (somehow) comes across as extremely measured, but that likely will not stop Real Madrid fans from taking a personal affront at what Hoeneß had to say.

The early aughts gave us some excellent music, but some has faded in time…so much so that we might have forgotten about it.

In an era that featured quite a few supergroups, Velvet Revolver was among the most star-powered. Former Guns N’ Roses members Slash (lead guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) teamed with Wasted Youth alum’s Dave Kushner (rhythm guitar), and the one-and-only Scott Weiland (lead vocals) of Stone Temple Pilots.

The band had a brief run (2002-2008) before Weiland got the axe and re-joined Stone Temple Pilots (one of this author’s favorite groups).

Anyway, “Slither” was one of Velvet Revolver’s biggest hits…enjoy:

Yes, this guy is still watching Landman season two (sorry!).

A revenge game? For a draw? Why not?

Sure, the Bavarians are dealing with a multitude of injuries and suspensions, but what better time than now to take out some frustration on a team that gave Bayern Munich hell earlier it the season during a 2-2 draw.

On the flipside, this could be the exact kind of game that the Bavarians completely look past…but will they?
