Inside Auburn football's coaching search from a recruiting lens as the Tigers replace Hugh Freeze

1
Auburn is college football's latest big-name program to fire its coach and enter what looks like the most exciting coaching carousel in recent memory. Not only are the Tigers in the mix — they're among the top available jobs.

Hugh Freeze's 15-19 (6-16 SEC) record is not at all what he or the Auburn decision makers envisioned when his hiring happened in November 2022. Freeze is someone who previously led Arkansas State (2011), Ole Miss (2012-16) and Liberty (2019-22) with on-field success.

Expectations are high at Auburn but also realistic — win 10 games, put yourself in a position to make the College Football Playoff, compete for national championships. It's demanding, sure, but also far from unrealistic for this program with the type of talent that can be accumulated here.

It goes without saying that winning no more than six games in one season during one's time on the Plains is simply not good enough.
