Liverpool could be reminded by the Premier League about one of its rules after suffering a 2-1 home defeat against bitter rivals Manchester United on SundayLiverpool could be reminded by the Premier League of its rules around the multi-ball system after claims they committed multiple breaches against Manchester United. The Reds’ poor form continued on Sunday when they were beaten 2-1 by Ruben Amorim’s side at Anfield.Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring after just 63 seconds before Cody Gakpo drew the Reds level when he finished from close range. But with six minutes of normal time remaining, Harry Maguire headed home a Bruno Fernandes ball into the box.And following Maguire’s goal, it is being claimed that a number of ball attendants pitchside broke the rules by throwing the ball to Liverpool players as they chased an equaliser. Coaching staff and those in the technical areas are also forbidden from throwing the ball to players under regulations introduced in 2022.READ MORE : Wayne Rooney tells Liverpool to drop summer signing and makes Mohamed Salah transfer claimREAD MORE : Milos Kerkez handed simple advice after being slammed by Gary NevilleEven though Aston Villa were fined £125,000 back in August for breaking the multi-ball regulations in five games last season, the ECHO understands that Liverpool are likely to be reminded of the rules rather than receive a similar fine. The ECHO also understands that no talks have yet taken place between the Premier League and Liverpool, while United did not raise an official complaint about the use of the multi-ball system at Anfield.Reflecting on the defeat, which was Liverpool’s fourth in a row, Arne Slot said: “If you play United, with so many quality players they have - [and] brought in a few new ones this summer - and if they come to us in a low block, playing so many long balls, then the last thing you would want is going 1-0 down.“Because that gives them even more belief. If you would have told me we are 1-0 down against a United team that played in the style they did, and you would have told me that we would create eight, nine, 10 open chances, then I would have said to you that I don't think that is possible. But it was possible."So, the second thing that went wrong is that from all the chances we got, we only scored one goal.“I have said it in Holland many times and maybe I've said it here as well, it's almost impossible to win a big game of football - and Liverpool v United is a big game with so many quality players on the pitch - to win it with a negative set-piece balance. We conceded another one and that led to us losing the game.”For the latest news and breaking news, visit liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/liverpool-fc.
