Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma tied the knot in December 2020 after dating during the pandemic, and their union seemed a perfect blend of cricket and creativity. They welcomed widespread admiration as a young celebrity couple, sharing glimpses of their life together on Instagram. However, by 2022, signs of trouble began emerging: the duo unfollowed each other, deleted joint photos, and rumours of separation grew stronger.

There was a time when Dhanashree Verma openly praised her husband’s character, long before headlines turned to heartbreak. In a past interview, she spoke tenderly about what drew her to Yuzvendra on a deeper level — his honesty and straightforward warmth.

Theirs wasn’t a typical celebrity love story. Yuzvendra first reached out to Dhanashree during lockdown, moved by her dance videos on TikTok and reels. He messaged her with a simple request — dance classes to fill time. She agreed. He later recounted how things evolved. “I had DMed her, having seen her dance on TikTok and a number of other reels. I asked her if she gives classes as I had nothing to do in lockdown. I wanted to learn something new. Once I messaged her, we started with online classes. First two months, we didn’t talk about anything else but dance. I didn’t flirt at all. We are not even friends, only had dance-related talks," he had revealed.

Over time, conversation turned personal. “I asked her ‘how are you so happy, even during this lockdown?’. Then she started to talk about her life. That is where our conversations started. I liked her vibe. She is a self-made woman like I am a self-made man. I told my mom about her, that I like this girl. Then I told her (Dhanashree) I don’t want to date you, I want to marry you. I said that straight away. I was sure."

In March 2025, the divorce was confirmed by mutual consent, finalised in Mumbai’s Bandra family court, with Chahal agreeing to reportedly pay Rs 4.75 crore in alimony. Reports surfaced that he had already disbursed half of the amount.
