As it happened: Iongi sparks Eels; Roosters, Broncos salute

2
A stunning Sunday triple of NRL action produced 31 tries and 168 points as the Broncos, Roosters and Eels registered vital wins. The Broncos trailed by 10 at the break after the Sharks got off to a flyer but with Reece Walsh and Kotoni Staggs at their damaging best the home side powered home with four second-half tries to have the Suncorp Stadium faithful in raptures. With four points separating fifth and 14th on the ladder as we headed into Round 16, a win was imperative for all the sides stuck in that logjam, including the Roosters and Cowboys, who featured in Sunday's second game. With James Tedesco again electric, the Roosters proved far too slick for the Cowboys, who have now conceded 100 points in the past two weeks. The final game of Round 16 pitted the Eels against the Titans and it was the home side registering their fifth win of the season on the back of sensational performances by fullback Isaiah Iongi and wingers Zac Lomax and Josh Addo-Carr. The Titans now sit alone in last place with a 4-10 record as they head into a Round 17 clash with the equally desperate Cowboys. Follow all the Round 16 action on NRL.com's live blog.
