Serbian tennis great, Novak Djokovic, has made a winning start to his campaign in the ATP Finals. The 35-year-old left behind the disappointment of his defeat in the final of ATP Finals. Playing against world number Stefanos Tsitsipas, Djokovic won in straight sets to send a strong message.

Djokovic, along with Spaniard Rafael Nadal, is a strong title contender. While the Serb made a flying start, Nadal suffered a disappointing defeat against his Wimbledon quarterfinal opponent Taylor Fritz. Djokovic also created a record after his victory against Tsitsipas. Here’s what he did.

Djokovic creates a unique record

Novak Djokovic has been in a sublime form in the recent past. He was on a 13-match winning streak before losing to Holger Rune in the Paris Masters. With his win in the first match of the ATP Finals against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 35-year-old now has 60 career wins over the top 3 players.

It’s a unique record that even the fellow big three players, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, don’t have.

Djokovic will next face Andrey Rublev, who comes from a tough three-set victory against his compatriot Daniil Medvedev.

Novak Djokovic to play in the Australian Open

The year 2022 has been full of controversies for the Serbian legend. The 35-year-old was unable to defend his Australian Open title because of his stand against the COVID-19 vaccine. His arrival in Australia, followed by the deportation, meant that the 35-year-old will have a three-year visa ban for Australia.

However, there’s good news for Djokovic fans. The Serb has got the green light from the Australian Government to play in the Australian Open 2023. Since the covid-19 rules are not in place anymore, the unvaccinated status of Djokovic is no more a problem. The only issue with his travel was the three-year visa ban which the government is going to lift now.
