Alan Myers shares the current likelihood that Everton will sign Thierno Barry to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin

There’s big news at Everton today, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin announcing he is leaving the club.

Speculation had been rife about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future for months.

The striker’s contract was ending this summer, and there was also a possibility he would be leaving as a free agent.

Calvert-Lewin has today confirmed that will be the case, after much deliberation.

In a lengthy statement, he said: “This isn’t something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It’s the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.

“I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I’ve worked with over the years and to my teammates who have become life-long friends.”

Everton must now replace Calvert-Lewin, and a few names have been linked.

Barry is thought to be a priority target for Everton at the moment.

There is now even more emphasis on the Toffees signing the Frenchman following Calvert-Lewin’s decision, and fans will hope there is movement soon.

It was claimed a few days ago that Villarreal were ready to help Everton sign Barry by negotiating the pay structure of the deal.

But today, Alan Myers has shared his current feeling about Everton signing Barry.

A fan asked him: “On a scale of 1-croissants, how likely do you think it is that we being in Barry as DCL’s replacement?”

Myers replied: “I’d say 4 croissants at this point, have a glass of milk on the side.”

The fan said: “So hopeful but not too hopeful. Gotcha!”

Myers: “I’ll feel better next week.”

Calvert-Lewin leaving Everton is the right decision

Myers’ response to the fan on X does not suggest that a move for Barry is particularly close right now, despite all the talk.

But obviously things can move very quickly when it comes to football transfers. So hopefully Everton can make some headway soon.

But Calvert-Lewin leaving is the right decision for all parties.

Everton did want to keep Calvert-Lewin, with the club informing fans recently that talks with the player were in progress.

But there was then a claim that Everton and Calvert-Lewin couldn’t reach an agreement.

And now, Everton and the player will indeed go their separate ways.

Calvert-Lewin proved he could score goals in the Premier League, but his record of just 17 goals in the Premier League in the last four seasons is not good.

And it’s not good when you consider Calvert-Lewin has been on huge wages, and then of course, there is his injury record.

So it’s the right outcome for all parties, but Calvert-Lewin has been a good servant for Everton and should certainly go with the well wishes of fans.
