The Asia Cup 2025 will start on September 9 and will be held in the United Arab Emirates, the Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Saturday.“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE,” Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the PCB chairman, posted on X. “The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9 to 28. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket.”Although the BCCI are the official hosts of the tournament, the Asia Cup cricket tournament is being held in the UAE after India and Pakistan mutually agreed to compete only at neutral venues till 2027 due to cross border tensions between the two countries.The upcoming Asia Cup will be the 17th edition of the tournament and will feature eight teams that have been divided into two groups.The five full members of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - alongside hosts United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong China are set to compete in the continental showpiece.Organised by the ACC, the Asia Cup was established in 1983 and is held every two years to crown the continental champions.Defending champions India are the most successful team in Asia Cup cricket history having won the title eight times.Sri Lanka have won the Asia Cup six times, while Pakistan have emerged triumphant twice.The Asia Cup, which has been played on a rotational basis between ODIs and T20Is since 2016, will be held in the 20-over format ahead of the T20 World Cup next year.Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup when it was last played in the T20 format in 2022 after they beat Pakistan in the final.
